Dragon’s Tea Party has 100 Followers!!!

I have reached 100 followers!!! I am so happy and proud. When I first started this blog back in April I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, I was very nervous about it and it took every inch of my confidence to press the ‘Publish’ button on my first post. Little did I know back then that there was such a wonderful blogging community waiting to welcome me, discuss all my favourite games and boost my confidence to the point where the dreaded ‘Publish’ button is not that scary any more.

When I first started blogging I promised myself that I would update my blog with WordPress’s Personal Plan when I reached 100 followers, so my blog may look a little more professional soon, depending on when I get around to it.

Now for my speech…

I want to thank all my super regular readers for… Well, for reading my blog regularly! You’ve all helped me out so much with my confidence in writing and I love discussing games with all of you.

I Played The Game

Lightening Ellen

Richenbaum Fotchenstein from Virtuanaut

Kim at Later Levels (whose latest blog party is probably what helped push me up to 100 so thank you for that!)

Nostalgia Trigger

Adventure Rules

Jay Borenstein from Nerdspeaker

Cary from Virtual Bastion

I would also like to thank my first ever follower, Claudio Caudullo from Explore the Gaming World. I don’t see much of you in the blogosphere and don’t know if you will see this, but I will always remember how excited I was when I got a notification telling me I had my first follower, you even beat my mum to first follower position, impressive.

Finally, thank you to everyone else that reads my blog, whether it’s just occasionally or frequently, I truly appreciate it so much and I hope that you’ll keep coming back for more Tea Party action!

I know that 100 followers is not a huge amount compared to some but it’s still a big milestone for every blogger and I’m very excited. I’m not going to make a big thing about it though, I’ll just take my 100 Followers trophy and go eat my 100 Followers cake in celebration.

So what is the Mystery Blogger Award?

The award was created by blogger Okoto Enigma and in her words : “Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.

3 Things About Me

  1. Some may know this already if they have read my Comic Con post but I can sew and I enjoy making clothes, as a result I have way too many and need to focus on sewing other things now.
  2. I am an aerial hooper – don’t know if that’s the correct term or not – in case you don’t know what aerial hoop is it’s a hoop that hangs in from the ceiling and you can sit in it and do tricks, I love doing it, it’s made me really strong and confident! Cirque du Soleil here I come!
  3. I can speak fluent French as I lived in France for 9 years. I tend to be a bit rusty when I have to speak it though at the moment as I don’t often have reason to, it comes back to me quickly though.

The Shameful Narcissist’s question

1. What’s your favorite kind of scented candle?

My favourite (we have an American vs English spelling thing going on in this post) would be the Christmas scented one, I only get to smell it once a year, which might be why it makes it all the nicer! It’s so nice and nostalgic.

2. Do you prefer physical copies or eBooks?  In the same vein, do you prefer digital copies or physical for video games?

This is a good question. In terms of books I used to be very anti e-copies but then I got a Kindle when I was living in London to read on my commute and it has been incredible, I love my Kindle so much. The only problem with it is that if I read a book on there that I end up absolutely loving (as has happened with Good Omens by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, The Assassin’s Apprentice series by Robin Hobb, I could go on for ages…) then I will really wish that I had bought it as a physical copy to display, read through again (not that I can’t read through it again on my Kindle but it’s nicer to curl up with a physical copy of a book that you really love), and even maybe lend to people… If they are super nice to me and promise to be careful and give it back within a certain time period.

In terms of video games I’m not quite as fussed about having physical copies but I do still like displaying them, also the problem with e-copies of games is that I’ll often forget that I actually have them, I keep forgetting I bought the remastered Batman Arkham series for example ad haven’t tried City yet, although that might just be because I was so unimpressed with the Asylum game that I wiped what I did play of it from my memory.

3. What’s your favorite nail polish color (yes guys can answer, too!)?

I tend to go multicolour with my nails, I like the rainbow look with a lot of glitter and sparkles. My main colours are usually blue, purple and pink though.

4. Philosophical question: Do you think humans are inherently good or are we amoral (lacking morals as in neutral, as opposed to immoral, which is against “common” morals) only exhibiting them because it’s the cost of living in a culture/society and they become so ingrained that we believe them to be inherent?

I think this is very much a case of how you were raised, but then that opens up the sort of exceptions to the rule where you can have wonderful parents but their child will turn into a psycho, or a child who will go through some nasty ordeals early in life but turn out to be an incredible human being (much like The Shameful Narcissist said about Sir Patrick Stewart in her Mystery Blogger post). So I think that we are all amoral but that there is a scale of it, for example when I was little I would do things that I didn’t perceive to be bad at the time and once I was told that they were bad things to do, or realised that I had upset someone because of my actions, I would feel very guilty and would never, or rarely, do it again but then other people might not have felt quite as guilty in the same situation as I was and they would have done it again. If the world had developed differently though some of those things may not have been perceived as bad… In short I believe that we’re heavily influenced, from an early age, by other people around us, our experiences, what’s happening in the world and that we have a unique starting point on the amoral scale which moves around depending on these influences.

5. Silver or Gold?

Silver, I remember my mum telling me that gold makes you look older and silver makes you look younger so that sort of resonates in my head a little whenever I wear it, not that I need to worry about that yet!

 My Best Post

I think my most popular post was my Comic Con post, however my Harley Quinn rant got a lot of love as well and that was more writing in that one!

 And the nominees are…

  1. I Played The Game
  2. Mr Panda’s Video Game Reviews
  3. Hairless Ginger
  4. Proud Gamer Girl
  5. Nostalgia Trigger

My Questions

1. If you could have any job in the world (from Indiana Jones style explorer to Pop Star to Journalist) what would you be?

2. Which TV show are you currently watching?

3. Would you rather be good really, really, ridiculously good looking, everyone would fancy the pants off you, and you would be able to get by in life on looks alone but whenever you opened your mouth the only thing that came out was “#YOLO” (actually saying the word ‘hashtag’) or would you rather dazzle people with your incredible personality, wit and wisdom but you have to wear a bag on your head because whenever you take it off, you still think you look totally normal, but people scream when they see you and run away, pleading for their lives? Show reasoning.

4. What do you think the best thing is about having a blog?

5. What pets, if any, do you have? Pictures can be included if you like in this, pictures of animals are always welcome on my newsfeed.

I had great fun answering these questions! Thanks again!

Mystery Blogger Award

Good news! I’ve been nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by The Shameful Narcissist. Thank you very much! When I first started blogging I didn’t realise how much of a community existed between bloggers and I was a little nervous about starting out but the amount of feedback and encouragement I’ve received since I joined has been wonderful and these awards that go around are a great way to find out about new blogs and encourage everyone to keep writing.

The Shameful Narcissist is a great blog with fanfiction, gaming and lots of other geeky things that I enjoy reading about, take a look at her blog if you haven’t already!

So let’s get started!

The Rules

3 things about me

  1. I am a market researcher by day (any video game companies out there that need a market researcher, please get in touch!) blogger by night and weekends.
  2. I was sorted into Hufflepuff on Pottermore. I am proud of this and think it’s very accurate. Hufflepuff pride!
  3. I am a firm believer in putting pineapple on pizza, and will fight anyone who says otherwise

The Shameful Narcissist’s question

1. The Doctor shows up in the Tardis.  Are you going to the future or the past?  How far would you go in either direction?

I am so glad there is a Doctor Who question in here, I’m a massive fan. I think I would go to the past because I would be a bit worried that if I went to the future I might see something about the fate of the world I don’t like and wouldn’t be able to go back the present knowing that it was going to happen. I would love to go back to ancient Greece, I really like Greek mythology and going back to the time they were set would be amazing although I’m aware that they didn’t actually happen (or did they? Maybe Pegasus was an alien and the Doctor took him back to his home planet, I guess we’ll never know…).

 2. Barring black or white, if you had to wear one color for the rest of your life, what color would that be?

I kind of change my go to colour every so often but at the moment it’s probably blue. I made a blue dress with foxes on it and I always get complimented on it so it’s my current favourite.

 3. Tea or coffee?

Definitely tea. I am a huge tea fan and I can’t stand the taste of coffee, I wish I could drink it though because the different flavours always sound so good.

4. Do you prefer urban, rural, or suburban?

Suburban. I like to be somewhere which is built up enough to have some nightlife and things to do, places to go, etc but can also be quite quiet and isn’t far from some nice countryside. At the moment I’m living in London and I go to visit my boyfriend in Dorset every other weekend, if it wasn’t for those little breaks in the countryside I’d probably go mad from cement, pollution and just so many people everywhere.

5. What do you think there should be a wiki for that there isn’t already (I guess this is the weird question)?

This is tough as there’s a wiki for pretty much everything isn’t there? I’m not sure… Maybe pizza wiki? It would tell you about different bases and sauce types, lists of potential toppings with recommendations for other ingredients that would complement your favourite ones and introduce you to some new ones that are especially weird and wonderful.

 My Best Post

I’m not sure if this means by views or personal. In terms of views it would be my post about Rezzed, but my favourite post to write so far has been my Bat Rant post, I just really like making lists and I got a carried away going off on a complaining tangent.

 And the nominees are…

  1. Nerd Thoughts Blog
  2. The Casual Gamer
  3. Pugs and Dinosaurs
  4. Halsdoll
  5. NinjaFox

 My questions

  1. Which house would you belong to in Harry Potter?
  2. If you could only watch one TV series for the rest of your life which would it be?
  3. Do you have a plan for the zombie apocalypse? If so, what is it? (this is the weird question)
  4. What inspired you to start your blog?
  5. What is the last book you read?

I had great fun answering these questions! Thanks again!

Sunshine blogging

I had a lovely surprise when I had a look at my blog today. I have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Thank you so much to Ambi Gaming for the nomination – as a relatively new blogger it is a massive confidence boost and has inspired me all the more to keep writing. Ambi Gaming is a great blog and I really enjoy reading their posts; check them out!

sunshine-006.jpg
So here are the rules for The Sunshine Blogger Award:
1. Thank the person that nominated you (done!)
2. Answer the questions given to you
3. Nominate at least 3 bloggers
4. Write questions for your nominees to answer

Here are the questions I was given:

1. Surprise! You’re in an RPG. What is your character build?
I am a big fan of rogues, particularly the double-dagger-wielding kind. I don’t like playing a warrior usually as I find them too slow and I don’t like being put in the tank position. I like to be fast, and up close and personal, plus the added bonuses of stealth mode is really handy. I like to be a smaller race to go along with this, usually a Halfling if available. Human is the last race I will choose.

2. What video game soundtracks rock your world?
This is a bit tricky because I tend to struggle to remember game soundtracks but one I have very clear memories of is The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Hearing it now is very nostalgic for me, it’s just full of such happy little tunes and sends me back to playing it on the Gamecube back in my youth.
Another one I remember well is the Neverwinter Nights soundtrack – again mostly for nostalgic reasons, but I found it very immersive and that game is definitely in my top 5 favourite games of all time.

3. If you had to summarize your blog with one snappy quote, what would it be?
Bit of a self-deprecating one but it pretty much sums me up:
“Gamer girl blundering her way through the blogosphere and life in general”.

4. If you were a tree, what type of tree would you be? Bonus: Why?
Hmmmm… I would be an oak tree because I used to love climbing them, and when I was little I would make cups and bowls for fairies our of acorn shells. I like to think that I would be a cool oak tree that lets people make tree houses in me and lets their imagination run wild like mine used to.

5. If you had one day during which everything you did would be successful, what would you do?
I would buy a lottery ticket and win millions of pounds, gamble all my money and double it, then leave my job and buy a kickass house. For the evening, and to celebrate, I would blag my way into a celebrity-only karaoke bar (if such a thing exists) and sing a rendition of Shoop by Salt n Pepa, to a crowd that are supernaturally entranced by my performance. Then I would leap off the stage and crowd surf my way to the bar, where I would start a dance number that everyone would join in with. I would be offered roles in several movies after that, only to decline because I am a terrible actress and this successful stuff only lasts for a day (but I get on really well with Emma Stone and Anna Kendrick, and we all hang out together for a while.) Finally, I settle in for the night defeating boss after boss on Bloodborne until the magic success spell wears off.

Nominations

Here are three blogs that I have really enjoyed reading recently and hope you will check them out!

1. Later Levels – This is a really cool blog that talks about lots of different games, some wonderful opinions and posts about them, this is the blog that persuaded me to go to Rezzed!
2. The Nerding Grounds – This blog has some really great suggestions for games and opinions on them, I love the sound of some of they games they talk about like Cattails and To The Moon.
3. Cheap Boss Attack – There are really good reviews and game suggestions on here. their Nintendo Switch review was really helpful and their Binding of Isaac comparison to Zelda was really interesting.

There are so many more but I can’t tag everyone!
Questions

Here are the questions I have come up with! Have fun!

1. You are allowed to take three items and one character from a video game with you for the zombie apocalypse. What items are they and who do you take?
2. You can visit a fantasy world of your choice – where do you go? Why? And how do you spend your time there?
3. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, what would your Patronus be and why? If you’re not a HP fan, first of all re-evaluate your life choices, and secondly what’s your favourite animal and why?
4. What is your go-to comfort food?
5. What is your favourite terrible movie?

Thank you again for nominating me, filling out these questions has been really fun!
